O'Keeffe's Bar
About This Spot
Stepping into O’Keeffe’s Bar feels like slipping into a familiar story told at a friend's kitchen table—unpolished, genuine, and rich with character. This unassuming dive bar, tucked along 5th Avenue in San Francisco’s Inner Richmond, carries the steady hum of neighborhood life. The pace here is easy-going but never dull, a low-lit refuge where time seems to loosen its grip, framing evenings with pool table clacks and the warm murmur of locals swapping stories.
The atmosphere is refreshingly no-frills, where the polished charm comes from the characters who populate the bar rather than any glitzy décor. From the owner’s sharp humor to the ebb and flow of familiar faces—regulars, new visitors, and the occasional four-legged friend—there’s a grounded kind of camaraderie that shapes the space. Conversations can be salty, sometimes playful in their bluntness, but always sincere; the banter is part of the fabric, drawing you deeper into a community that owns its quirks.
O’Keeffe’s pairs its friendly irreverence with a strong lineup of drinks that are as straightforward and satisfying as the bar itself. Whether you’re nursing a Guinness Extra Stout or chasing the elusive last pour of Anchor Steam, each drink feels like an invitation to pause and share in one of those simple, unpretentious moments that feel rare in the city’s ever-shifting landscape.
At O’Keeffe’s, the pool table reigns as a quiet champion of many evenings—offering an affordable distraction and a communal pulse beneath the hum of TVs and the shuffle of cards. It’s a place where the crowd is a mix of locals, students, and random passersby, all welcomed with the kind of straightforward friendliness that’s as much a part of the experience as the drinks and the game.
Here, you’re not just visiting a bar; you’re stepping into a local story still in the making—where imperfections are embraced, and every visit brings a little unpredictable charm. It’s the kind of place that promises no frills but leaves you with something unmistakably real.

Favorite Inner Richmond neighborhood bar, which is a dive bar with no frills and pool tables. It is cash only, and there is a AT&M if needed. Owner is awesome, and the patrons aka the locals are friendly.

Annie runs the bar most of the time. She is just hilarious. Kind of racist, but in a friendly kind of way. I live across the street and there didn't seem to be a pattern of when they are open. I asked her one time when they are open and she said in a very thick Irish accent, "Whenever the hell I feel like it!" When she pours a liquor drink, you only need one. I took my Valentine's day date there last year and he was talking and I had to silence him and point to the drink so he could see what was happening. He was confused until he looked, then he saw what I saw... 7/8 of the glass was gin and the other 1/8 was tonic. The gin was Bombay Sapphire and it was a whole five dollars. One time I was in there and I asked if she took checks and she said, "No darling I haven't taken checks since 1976" and I said "Well why do you have a sign that states the penalty for returned checks?" and she laughed and said she should take it down. I asked for it (much to my roommates dismay). I still have it. Another time my roommate and I were in there and we ended up playing pool with her and another customer. She heckled him the whole time. You just can't get experiences like this in a cookie cutter bar.

I like this place. It may not allow smoking anymore like it did back in the not so far back as to be bambi it it is a good bar. Locals, Irish, hot usf chicks and random oddballs with cameras and almost boratesque style (ok ignore that last bit. Hot chicks true. Rest is getting too weird for print) Bartenders here are not to be trifled with. Respect and tip well and there will be peace as well as booze =) cya soon!

One of the best neighborhood Irish dive bars in the city. Easily the cheapest pool table of any bar I know 50cents!

Your typically local dive bar with all the accompaniments: alternately friendly/grumpy customers, sassy, salty, but ultimately friendly service. Plenty of TV's surround the pool table while bottle beers and shots fulfill your thirst requirements. Local four legged friends are known to frequent the bar for drinks and treats with their owners in tow.

Favorite neighborhood bar. Annie is the best, the people are amazing, and there is a true sense of community here. Great place for a beer, a game of pool, and good conversation.

I've never had a more pleasant experience for my first time in a neighborhood bar. Annie and Bobby are just great and so are the regulars I talked with. It’s a little out of my way on the trip home from work, but I’ll be returning soon.
